IWD 2021 – Thoughts about moral progress, eco-system consciousness and women.


When women are deprived of means and opportunity, society misses their potential contributions. We have underestimated those contributions for far too long. Humankind can no longer afford that.

If we are real about pursuing a world free of poverty, hunger, disease and want, where all life can thrive – as agreed upon by 193 countries in September 2015 – we must stop leaving women behind.

Dear friends of BCCI Inclusive Finance,

as we move toward a New Year, it’s time to reflect on the one coming to an end and on where we’d like to be heading next.

2020 has been a difficult year. The Covid19 pandemic has caused immense physical, emotional and economic suffering around the globe, affecting the most vulnerable — the elderly, the poor, the non-white and women — disproportionately.

At BCCI Inclusive Finance, the year did not unfold as hoped. …


Humanity is at a fork in the road, with supporters of the status quo and sustainability advocates pushing in different directions. In the middle, well-intentioned observers — wishing for a brighter future — feel unable or powerless to shape the future they want.

The question that’s been obsessing me for the last few years, and more so since Covid19 erupted, is how to turn those observers into actors. …
